Exams without sedation
Upper GI Endoscopy: present fasted for at least 8 hours
Proctoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, transrectal ultrasound / procto-sigmoid endoscopic ultrasonography: make two enemas (sorbiclis) 1 hour before the exam.
Colonoscopy: to clean bowel following strictly the recommended doses and times
Interventional procedures without sedation (polypectomy or mucosal resections): perform blood test blood count with platelets and determination of PT, PTT, fibrinogen. Discontinue treatment with clopidogrel (Plavix) at least 5 days before. Discontinue therapy with prasugrel (Efient) at least 7 days before. Discontinue therapy with oral anticoagulants (Sintrom, coumadin) at least 4 days before the procedure. Discontinue therapy with New Oral Anticoagulants (Xarelto, Eliquis, Pradaxa) at least 48 hours before.
Exams with sedation
Bring the following tests performed in the last 30 days
- electrocardiogram
- serum nitrogen,creatinine,glucose,sodium,potassium,calcium.
- PT,PTT,fibrinogen
- Cell Blood Count with platelets
Interventional procedures with sedation (polipectomy, mucosal resection, ERCP, Endoscopic ultrasonography with needle biopsy): Discontinue treatment with clopidogrel (Plavix) at least 5 days before. Discontinue therapy with prasugrel (Efient) at least 7 days before. Discontinue therapy with oral anticoagulants (Sintrom, coumadin) at least 4 days before the procedure. Discontinue therapy with New Oral Anticoagulants (Xarelto, Eliquis, Pradaxa) at least 48 hours before
It is recommended to be accompanied because after sedation the patient can not drive any vehicle in the hours following the examination.
